Storing a Vehicle for the Winter? Read This First!

storingHibernation Mode

Are you going to be storing your vehicle for the winter? Here are a few suggestions we would like to offer before you put your vehicle into hibernation mode. Keep reading for what we think are some really great tips!

storingBefore Storing for the Winter

Before you park your car for the long winter ahead, there are few things you definitely want to do before you close that garage door. The first thing you’ll want to do is empty your vehicle of all trash and debris. The last thing you want to have in the springtime is mold and funky smells from decomposing foods. Be sure to check under the seats, shake out the floor mats and don’t forget to look in the trunk just in case.

One of the thing that Myrtle Beach Detailing can help you with is a full interior and exterior detail. Trust us, you’ll be glad you spent the money to have it done come warmer weather. If you choose to have the seats and/or floor steam cleaned, make sure you give it enough time to properly dry before you hang up your keys. To be on the safe side, you can purchase some desiccant to leave on the floor to help soak up any moisture that may show up over the winter.

For the outside of the vehicle, make sure you give it a good wash and wax if you’re not getting it professionally detailed. The last thing you want to do is put a car cover on a dirty car. You’ll also want to inflate your tires. Over the winter months, tires can lose air pressure. Just be sure you check the side of the tire for the maximum pressure so you don’t over-inflate them.

storingA Garage is Best, but…

If you’re storing the vehicle outside and not in a garage, you may want to invest in a really good car cover. Looks for one that’s specifically made to fit your vehicle and make sure it’s put on correctly. If you’re storing your vehicle in a garage, a basic car cover will also be beneficial. This protects your vehicle’s paint. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE A TARP to cover your vehicle. That’s the quickest way to ruin your vehicle’s paint job.

storingDon’t Forget Under the Hood

There are some things under the hood that you’ll need to do to your vehicle too. We suggest speaking to a service advisor or technician at either Beach Automotive Service or at the Quick Lane. They can make some really great suggestions so your car will be running smooth once winter is over.
