Glass Cleaning: Tips and Tricks

glassProper glass cleaning

Cleaning car windows, ugh! We’ve all been there. You know how it goes. You get your bottle of window cleaner and a handful of paper towels.  You wipe and wipe and wipe for what seems like hours. Well stop that mess right now! Here are a few helpful tips to get the clearest glass you’ve ever seen!

glassBefore you begin

First of all, you’ll always want to clean the glass and mirrored surfaces of your vehicle last. What good is it to clean your windows before you clean the rest of your car? You’ll only end up ruining the clarity with soapy dirty water. You will also want to wait until the glass has cooled off. This means no cleaning windows in direct sunlight. In previous blogs we’ve told you about the importance of washing your car in the shade. The same goes for the windows and other vehicle glass.

glassAfter you’ve chosen your window cleaner, you’ll want to make sure you have the proper towel to use. Never use the same towel for multiple uses. If you washed the car with it, don’t clean your windows with it. A good microfiber towel is good to use. You can also use newspaper, just like grandma used to clean the windows in her house!

Ready… Aim…

Hold on just a minute! Don’t spray the glass cleaner directly on the glass. Instead, spray it on your towel first. You’ll avoid overspray and be able to better control the amount of cleaner being used. Begin cleaning the front and rear glasswindshields first. Those are the most difficult (and most annoying if you ask us) to clean. Go to the side windows next and be sure not to forget the very tops of the windows either. Just roll them down a touch and you’ll see what we mean.

Now, when you’re cleaning the front and rear windshields, you’ll want to clean in different directions. For example, if you clean side to side on the inside, clean up and down on the outside. That way, if you see and strange streaks or blurriness, you’ll know which side of the glass you’ll need to clean again. Don’t forget to clean the wiper blades too. Some stores carry an actual wiper blade treatment but any glass cleaner without ammonia will be perfectly safe to use. By cleaning the wiper blades, you’ll avoid messy streaks and lines when it rains.
